SHOW REPORT BY LYN EMMERSON

A TASTE OF THE MUSICALS

performed by Melody Makers, Benllech

Producers: Ralph & Christine Peters

Accompanist: Eunice Parry

Choreographer: Judith Jeffries

The first half of this show was made up of songs from ‘My Fair Lady’, ‘Oliver’, ‘Mama Mia’ and ‘We will Rock You’.  In the second half we were treated to items from ‘Me and My Girl’, ‘The Sound of Music’ and ‘Les Miserables’. When you are faced with 33 musical items in a performance, it is difficult to pick out any single artist for special mention, as on this occasion there were many creditable performances. However, there are a few which deserve special mention.

Val Bamber gave her all in her rendition of ‘As Long As He Needs Me’ and Geraint Roberts gave us a menacing ‘My Name’ from the same popular musical ‘Oliver’. Nothing seems to phase Jamiee Blakeley who seems so comfortable on the stage, and her ‘On My Own’ from Les Miserables was memorable. Steven Blankley hit all the right notes with his ‘ Empty Chairs and Empty Tables’ from the same show, together with Juliet Berrigan’s ‘I Dreamed a Dream’   A highlight of the evening came from Joy Sidley-Brooks with ‘Climb Every Mountain’ from ‘The Sound of Music’ a real show stopper.

It was evident throughout the evening that all the soloists received 100% support from the well-disciplined  well-rehearsed chorus. It was encouraging to see so many youngsters in the company which are the future of Amateur Theatre. A very enjoyable evening, one which the Company  should be proud of.
